Getting a loan - bad bank practices

I sought a loan from a local bank in addition to some other larger outfits. What outraged me is they lied. They said they would call on a certain day to let me know approval. I received no calls. I called to receive a negative answer. Is this normal practice these days, that if the answer is no, it's ok to not call?

Second, I informed the loan officer of my debts and income and amount requested and reason requested. When I finally found out that I was declined, I was told it was because of a debt income ratio problem. I then asked to be approved for a lower amount, at which time I got the same answer. It seems to me that they knew they we're not going to approve me based on my information but went ahead and "ran my social" anyways twice. When I last talked to them I asked for a small amount for personal loan and if I was to request that would I also be turned down.  They said yes.

So, why would they act as they review was necessary of my credit, when in fact they knew before it all that they were not going to approve me.

I played a lot of phone tag and waited an unreasonable amount of time.  There was a lot of unprofessionalism.

You probably have a low FICO score.  A number too low and there is no amount of money they will lend you.

Why not save what you need to buy the item?  Once my wife and I learned that debt was not a good thing, even if the payments were comfortable, we did much better financially.
